Has anyone heard of butyrate as a dietary supplement, and where can I buy?

What are its main uses, and anyone is familiar with its use in autoimmune conditions? Thank you.

It hi Celeste. Thank you for this interesting question! I am currently theoretical research on the role of zinc and vitamin D in the occurrence, prevention and treatment of various autoimmune diseases (rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn's disease, etc..) I was not aware of any research on butyrate before seeing your question, I found a couple of research papers on butyrate on autoimmune diseases. Both studies were in vitro (studies in cells in the laboratory), so it is not clear whether the information would be clinically applicable in humans (for treatment). butyrate is a fatty acid chain short. It is produced in the large intestine by the normal flora (bacteria) that live there. This is an important nutrient for the health of the large intestine. Thus, it is a natural substance normally found in the body. Butyrate has been shown (in vitro) to inhibit the critical inflammatory mediators in autoimmune diseases – in particular a key molecule called TNF-alpha. This may be a mechanism that could have clinical benefits through supplementation butyrate (also known as butyric) acid. The challenge will be finding a source of butyrate.
